Katy Perry, Taylor Swift Share More In Common Than We Think

Katy Perry and Taylor Swift may have bad blood with one another, but the feuding pop divas have more in common than they seem to let on. If only they would talk things out and set their differences aside, then they could become one of pop music’s greatest allies rather than the industry’s ugliest enemies.

Katy Perry reignited the bad blood rumors with the release of her new single from her fifth studio album. Rumors started swirling that Perry, 31, is penning her response to Swift’s 2015 single after a Twitter user @lovelymissJJ, who claims to be a music studio engineer, alleged that Perry’s new single could dis her arch enemy.

“Katy’s response to ‘Bad Blood’ is so good but no one cares cos the beef died down [SIC],” the user, who refers to herself as Nana JJ, wrote on Twitter.

The user claims that the song is set for release this coming August, saying that Katy’s “calendar, promo, everything is planned months in advance.”

In addition, the @MusicFactsShady Twitter account hinted that Perry’s lead single is slated for release in August, before adding that it could very well be a response to “Bad Blood.”

This comes after the news that the “Dark Horse” singer’s new perfume is said to throw some subtle shade at Taylor Swift. Her new fragrance is appropriately called “Mad Love” – as in “You know it used to be made love,” a line from Swift’s scathing song, which she hinted was about Perry. In a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone, Swift talked about her feud with an unnamed pop star for “stealing” some of her backup dancers and “sabotaging” her world tour.

“For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not. She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?'”

Perry tweeted, “Watch out for the Regina George in Sheep’s clothing,” just one day after the interview was released online.

But it looks like Taylor and Katy have more in common than they think. Both singers have found love with British actors. Katy has been dating Orlando Bloom, 38, since the two first met and danced the night away at the 2016 Golden Globes, while Taylor has since moved on rather quickly with Tom Hiddleston. Ironically enough, the two were first spotted dancing together at the 2016 Met Gala.

Both Katy Perry and Taylor Swift have rebounded from their former relationships with musicians, John Mayer and Calvin Harris, to embark on their newfound relationships with the Hollywood heartthrobs.

Swift, 26, and Hiddleston, 35, have yet to make their relationship Instagram official like Perry did with her boyfriend at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. But Swift and Hiddleston appear to be serious since they have already met each other’s families.

Katy and Taylor have also been fighting the same causes lately. According to Billboard, both singers have signed a petition for the reform of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The petition, organized by music manager Irving Azoff, asks for the DMCA to be updated so that YouTube and similar platforms can create a safe harbor for copyright infringement.

Swift and Perry are also among the hundreds of stars and artists who signed a petition asking for stricter anti-gun laws. The petition, organized by Billboard, followed the reports that the U.S. Senate has rejected four anti-gun proposals on June 20. Billboard magazine has asked their artists and music executives to help them join the fight for gun control.

Despite their similarities, it looks like Katy Perry and Taylor Swift’s feud will only get uglier as time goes on. There’s nothing like some stiff competition to get everyone talking. Check out the history of their feud in the video below.
